I’ve worn glasses since I was a child, and since I was a teenager I’ve mostly worn contact lenses out in public, only wearing glasses at home. For the last few years my prescription hasn’t changed, so I didn’t see a need to spend money on new glasses, especially since I rarely wore them out of the house. But then I started to think that maybe if I had cute, stylish glasses, I would wear them out of the house, especially to events. Working events seemed like a natural fit for glasses since I’m usually out and about all day, on my feet running around. My eyes can be killing me by the time I’m finished for the day.
I had heard about Warby Parker a few years ago but I thought that they only had hipster glasses. But when it came time for my annual eye exam I took another look. Sure there were glasses that I wouldn’t wear, but there were a ton that I would. And for $95 for many frames (some were more expensive), including lenses and shipping, I thought it was worth a try.
Warby Parker is probably most known for it’s free try at home program. It’s incredibly simple. You choose five pairs to try on, they charge $1 to your credit card so they have your information (it’s later refunded), and the try-on glasses (without prescription lenses) are mailed to your door.
The next step (and potentially the hardest one) is trying to decide. I had my husband take photos of me (I felt like Cher in Clueless – “I don’t trust mirrors!”) and of course it was a ridiculously windy day, so I look a bit dramatic.
The try on program is key because I definitely thought I would like certain frames better before I tried them on. The pair I ended up choosing was a last minute toss into my online shopping cart – I didn’t think they would look good on me but I ended up loving them!
You’re allowed to keep your frames for a few days and then return them using the prepaid label. The whole process was super easy! Note – don’t forget to return them or your credit card will get charged for each pair! But if you need some extra time just ask – their customer service is excellent!
One I mailed my try-on pairs back I made my decision and placed the order. The order process is pretty simple if you already have your prescription in hand. The one extra step I had to do was measure my Pupillary Distance (PD). Apparently it’s fairly common for your glasses prescription not to include this so they had a really easy way to measure it for you using a credit card and a webcam.
After submitting my PD measurement, I shortly got the notice that my glasses were shipped and they arrived pretty quickly.
The glasses come with a very nice glasses case – I like the heavier cases when I travel so I know they won’t break.
The next day I debuted my glasses at the office and received tons of compliments! The glasses are cute, fun and stylish. They are also comfortable – the fit is perfect, which was one hesitation I had over ordering glasses online instead of in-person at a shop.
So there you have it! I would highly recommend Warby Parkers to anyone looking for an affordable, trendy pair of glasses!
