I’ve always loved books. I worked at the local library all through high school and during breaks from college. I even (briefly) entertained the idea of being a librarian. So naturally I love the ideas of using books as decor. Whether you are looking for a unique wedding theme or have a literary-themed affair to plan (library benefit? children’s book gala?) here are some fun ideas.
Book Page Luminaries
I love these – via Etsy seller Oldendesigns. These are geared toward weddings with the heart and bride and groom silhouette, but you could make something similar for any kind of event. You could just do the plain vintage pages for a book event.
Carved Book Table Numbers
There are so many ways to use carved books in decor – some might be DIY but others you would need to hire a professional. I love the pop-up quality of these – it’s from a wedding where the groom was a writer. Via BizBash.
Or this one via Wedding Wire.
You can be even more elaborate, such as this Gone With the Wind inspired centerpiece. I saw these while at The Special Event Conference in January 2014. You can read more about these here.
Simple Book Centerpieces
Of course, book centerpieces don’t need to be quite so elaborate (or require an exacto knife). I like the simplicity of this centerpiece with a few stacked books and a raised number to add texture and dimension. You can arrange the books by type or by color, using any theme you like. Via The Wedding of My Dreams.
You can incorporate a book theme into the menu. I love this one via Style Me Pretty – I can see using this for a small dinner party where each guest’s “menu” was in a book that the host selected for him or her based on his personality or profession. How fun! I would do this for a smaller dinner party otherwise the personalization could get overwhelming.
Bookmark Escort Cards
This is such a simple idea but I love it – use bookmarks as escort cards and have them sticking out of vintage books. This would be easy to DIY on a small scale. Via Wedding Wire.
Card Catalog Escort Card Display
This one would take a bit more work in order to track down an old school card catalog, but what a fun way to display escort cards for a literary themed event! Via Style Me Pretty.
Book Page Cake Topper
Use vintage book pages as flags for a cake topper. It would be particularly relevant if it were something romantic or meaningful for the couple. You could also do this on a smaller scale for any cake or dessert – it wouldn’t just need to be a wedding cake. Via Bridal Musings.
See – so many ways to use books as decor for any event!
