valentine’s day cocktail ideas

valentine's day cocktail ideas

Valentine’s Day means different things to different people. For my husband and me, it’s an excuse to go out to dinner. Other couples make a bigger deal out of the holiday; some couples don’t celebrate it at all. And of course, the holiday isn’t limited to couples only – take a cue from Leslie Knope on Parks and Recreation and celebrate Galentine’s Day in honor of her female friends and relatives. But whether you are celebrating at home, out on the town, with friends or with your significant other, Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to have a drink. And since I truly love any excuse for a signature drink, I now present a selection for you.

Romeo & Juliet

Cliche? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely. Tequila, Gran Marnier, Cherry liquer and peach juice – what could be bad? Drink this with your own Romeo, or grab a few at a bar with a girlfriend and laugh at all the saps who think Shakespeare’s story is actually romantic. Recipe at HGTV.

Sorbet & Champagne Cocktail

This one should be renamed, “An easy way for Amanda’s husband to make her ridiculously happy.” Champagne is one of my favorite things on the planet and it can only be enhanced by adding sorbet. But the best part of this recipe is it really is just dropping some sorbet into champagne. Genius! To all the husbands and boyfriends reading this: You’re welcome. Via Martha Stewart.

Sweet Negroni Cocktail

This one makes the list because of the color – pink! So maybe this isn’t one your man would enjoy drinking in public, so keep that in mind. But it’s pretty easy to make at home; all you need is gin, Campari liqueur, and vermouth. Recipe at Martha Stewart.

The Chocolate Lovers Margarita

Just as kids (and florists) associate red and pink with Valentine’s Day, plenty of women (myself included) associate the day with chocolate. In fact, my husband asked me today what I wanted for Valentine’s Day and my immediate answer was caramels (covered in chocolate, of course). This one is a bit more hands on, requiring a blender, with chocolate milk, tequila and daqueri mix in the ingredients. Recipe at Cosmopolitan.

Bitter Pill

Bonus – if you’re not in the mood for romance, or you and your significant other are the types to enjoy irony, try the well-named bitter pill. Recipe at Imbibe.

Cheers and happy valentine’s day!
